About Market Drayton
Market Drayton is a town in Shropshire on the banks of the River Tern. It had a population of 12,060 (built-up area, 2021).
Its railway station opened in 1863 and closed in the 1963 Beeching cuts. Landmarks include St Mary's Church, dating from 1150 though largely rebuilt in 1881-1889, and the Tyrley Locks on the Shropshire Union Canal, with an aqueduct designed by Thomas Telford.
