About Axbridge
Axbridge is a town in Somerset on the River Axe, near the southern edge of the Mendip Hills. It is administered by Somerset Council and had 2,057 residents at the 2011 census.
Its former railway station on the Cheddar Valley line opened in 1869 and closed in 1963, and the town is now bypassed by the A371. Landmarks include the 13th-century Church of St John the Baptist and King John’s Hunting Lodge, now a museum.
