Renting in Filton: what it means for your move-out clean
Filton, a town of about 11,300 people at the 2021 census, sits on the northern edge of Bristol in South Gloucestershire. Aircraft manufacture began here in 1910 in the Bristol Tramway sheds, and the Concorde supersonic airliner was built here in the late 1960s and 1970s; the last Concorde to fly landed at Filton in 2003 and is now the centrepiece of the Aerospace Bristol museum, opened in 2017. Airbus, Rolls-Royce, GKN, BAE Systems and MBDA still have sites nearby.
The airfield closed in 2012 and is being redeveloped as Brabazon, where South Gloucestershire Council approved a masterplan in February 2024 for over 6,000 homes, the 17,000-capacity YTL Arena and a new railway station. Older Filton is quite different: housing in Filton Park is mainly privately owned 1930s semi-detached, with flats along main roads such as Filton Avenue. Filton Abbey Wood station serves the south of the town, and the University of the West of England’s Frenchay campus is close by.
South Gloucestershire had about 290,400 residents in 2021, and 15.7% of its households rented privately, compared with 13.6% ten years earlier.
